The Bracelet Margaret Recognized
The police escorted the man outside.
The restaurant slowly grew quiet again.
The young woman wiped away her tears.
As Margaret held her hand, she noticed a faded blue bracelet on her wrist.
Her breath caught.
“Where did you get that?”
The young woman looked down.
“My mother tied it on me before she passed away.”
Margaret’s hands began to tremble.
She reached into her purse and pulled out an old photograph.
In it, two young women stood smiling together.
One wore the exact same bracelet.
The young woman’s eyes widened.
“That’s my mom…”
Margaret nodded through tears.
“She was my best friend.”
The young woman broke down crying.
Margaret wrapped her in a warm embrace.
“You’re not alone anymore.”
For the first time in years, the young woman believed her.
Because the stranger who defended her had turned out to be the last connection to the family she thought she’d lost forever.
