Big Saul Went Looking for Answers

Big Saul wrapped a clean cloth around Ray’s injured leg and gently lifted her onto an old leather chair inside the garage.

“Stay right here, little bird,” he said softly. “I’m gonna fix this.”

Ray sniffled and nodded.

But before Saul could stand, the little girl grabbed his hand.

“Please don’t be mad,” she whispered.

The old mechanic froze.

“Mad at who?”

Tears filled Ray’s eyes.

“Mommy’s boyfriend.”

Silence filled the garage.

Saul’s jaw tightened.

His green eyes darkened.

“Did he do this?”

The child lowered her head.

Then slowly nodded.

The heavy wrench in Saul’s hand clenched so hard his knuckles turned white.

But when he looked back at Ray, his voice stayed gentle.

“You listen to me, sweetheart.”

He knelt beside her and carefully wiped away her tears.

“You’re not alone anymore.”

The Debt That Set Them Free

Then Big Saul stood.

And everyone in town knew one thing—

when the old mechanic got that look in his eyes,

someone was about to answer for what they’d done.
