The Ash Queen Awakened the Army the World Buried
The sky burned darker.
Ash fell endlessly across the battlefield.
Like the world itself had stopped breathing.
Above—
hundreds of phoenixes circled through smoke and dying sunlight.
Wings of living fire stretched across the heavens.
Their cries echoed like forgotten songs reborn.
At the center of the wasteland—
the Viking warrior stood unmoving.
Fur armor glowing faintly beneath drifting embers.
The massive cracked egg burned brighter in her hands.
Too bright.
Too alive.
Behind her—
the colossal dragon lowered its enormous head.
Ancient red eyes watching the shell carefully.
Waiting.
Like even it feared what came next.
The woman’s breathing slowed.
Heat surged through the air around her.
Her blonde braids lifted gently in unseen wind.
Then—
the egg split open.
A violent pulse of orange fire exploded outward.
The ground cracked.
Ash blasted across broken earth.
Phoenixes above screamed into the sky.
The dragon stepped backward.
For the first time—
uncertain.
Inside the burning shell—
something moved.
Small.
Ancient.
Impossible.
A tiny claw emerged first.
Made not of flesh—
but molten fire.
Then another.
The shell shattered completely.
And from within—
rose a creature no larger than a wolf.
A young phoenix.
But wrong.
Different.
Its feathers glowed black at the edges.
Orange fire moved beneath them like lava beneath stone.
Its eyes—
deep molten gold.
Old eyes.
Ancient eyes.
The battlefield fell silent.
The creature slowly lifted its head toward the woman.
Watching.
Remembering.
Then—
it stepped closer.
Ash turned instantly to glowing glass beneath its feet.
The Viking warrior knelt slowly.
Heart pounding.
Hands trembling despite herself.
“You know me?” she whispered.
The creature stopped inches away.
Then gently lowered its burning head against her chest.
A soft sound escaped her.
Half laugh.
Half tears.
Because somehow—
it felt familiar.
Like something lost long ago had finally returned.
Behind them—
the giant dragon suddenly bowed.
Massive wings folding low against the volcanic earth.
The phoenix army above shifted instantly.
Circling lower.
Protective.
Obedient.
Not to the dragon.
To her.
Then—
far beyond the burning wasteland—
war horns echoed.
Low.
Dangerous.
An army approached through the smoke.
Thousands.
Black banners rising against the horizon.
And at the front—
rode a king wrapped in obsidian armor.
A crown of black iron resting above cold eyes.
He stared toward the sky full of phoenix fire.
Toward the dragon.
Toward the woman holding impossible power.
His expression darkened.
Then quietly—
almost afraid—
he whispered,
“She survived.”
The Viking warrior slowly stood.
The young phoenix perched beside her.
The dragon rose behind her like a storm made flesh.
And through falling ash—
she lifted her gaze toward the approaching army.
No fear remained.
Only fire.
Only purpose.
“Our ashes,” she said softly—
voice stronger than war—
“become their ending.”
