PART 2: The Bull Beneath the Arena

The Queen rose from her throne so suddenly the nobles beside her stepped back in alarm.

Her eyes never left the boy standing beside the colossal mechanical beast.

“No…” she whispered shakily.

“Shut it down.”

But nobody moved.

Because the impossible was already happening.

The gigantic bull lowered its massive head slowly toward the child while steam hissed from the cracks in its armored body.

The arena remained completely silent.

Only chains rattled softly in the dust-filled air.

The boy placed one trembling hand against the creature’s weathered metal face.

Instantly—

the glowing orange eye flickered.

Once.

Twice.

Then changed.

The violent burning color softened into a dim golden light.

Gasps spread across the colosseum.

A Roman commander stepped backward in horror.

“The war engine is responding to him…”

Above the arena, the Queen’s breathing became uneven.

The Debt That Set Them Free

Because twenty years earlier—

before the kingdom turned the machine into a weapon—

the mechanical bull had another name.

Asterion.

Protector of the royal bloodline.

The boy closed his eyes tightly against the metal surface.

“You carried me out,” he whispered softly.

Fragments flashed through his mind.

Fire.
Screaming.
Collapsing palace walls.

And glowing metal eyes watching over him through smoke as massive mechanical horns shattered burning doors apart.

The bull released a deep metallic rumble.

Not rage.

Recognition.

Then suddenly—

BOOM.

The arena gates exploded inward.

Dozens of armored soldiers stormed into the battlefield with massive ballista weapons aimed directly at the creature.

“Destroy it now!” the Queen screamed.

Panic erupted across the stands.

But the boy turned slowly toward the throne above the arena.

The Fall That Changed Everything

Dust swirled around him beneath the golden sunset while the giant mechanical bull shielded him with its enormous armored body.

Tears filled the Queen’s eyes.

Because she finally recognized the child’s face.

Not a stranger.

Not a peasant.

Her son.

The prince believed dead during the palace uprising years earlier.

The boy looked directly at her.

And when he spoke—

his voice carried across the entire colosseum.

“You told the kingdom the monster killed me.”

The mechanical bull’s chains snapped loose one by one behind him.

“But it was the only thing that tried to save me.”
