PART 2: The Dogs Remembered
Warning sirens screamed across the Arctic compound while red emergency lights flashed violently through the blizzard.
Snow blasted across the frozen yard beneath the dark sky.
And at the center of it all—
the chained prisoner stood surrounded by six combat-trained Belgian Malinois.
Protecting her.
Not the soldiers.
The armed escort slowly backed away in panic while the dogs growled low beneath the storm.
Their teeth glinted beneath the red warning lights.
“This isn’t possible…”
One young soldier tightened his grip on his rifle nervously.
But none of the dogs obeyed anymore.
The female prisoner slowly lifted her exhausted eyes toward the towering guard towers surrounding the compound.
Snow clung to her bruised face.
Blood stained the steel cuffs around her wrists.
And yet—
for the first time since arriving—
she no longer looked afraid.
The commander stepped forward carefully through the snow.
Cold realization spread across his face while he stared at the faded tattoo on her wrist.
“K9 UNIT OMEGA…”
His voice barely carried through the storm.
The woman finally spoke.
“They were never trained to attack innocent people.”
Lightning flashed far beyond the frozen mountains.
The commander’s expression darkened instantly.
Because he remembered exactly who she was.
Captain Elena Voss.
Former military K9 handler.
Declared dead three years earlier during Operation White Fang.
Official records claimed she died alongside her entire unit during a classified Arctic mission.
But standing there beneath the screaming storm—
alive and chained—
the truth suddenly became impossible to ignore.
One terrified soldier pointed his rifle toward her.
“She’s dangerous!”
Instantly—
every combat dog snapped toward him.
Violent snarls exploded through the snow.
The soldier stumbled backward in fear.
“Lower your weapon!” the commander barked.
The man obeyed immediately.
Because even armed soldiers understood one terrifying fact now—
those dogs would kill for her.
Suddenly—
BOOM.
A distant explosion shook the frozen compound.
The ground trembled beneath their boots.
Searchlights flickered violently across the storm while alarms screamed louder through the base.
Snow fell from nearby rooftops.
“What the hell was that?!”
Another explosion thundered somewhere deeper inside the compound.
Then—
the prison sirens changed tone.
A long mechanical emergency signal echoed through the Arctic darkness.
The commander grabbed his radio instantly.
“Control, report!”
Only static answered him.
The prisoner slowly looked toward the far end of the compound where black smoke now climbed into the storm-filled sky.
Her expression changed instantly.
Not fear.
Recognition.
“They came.”
The commander turned sharply toward her.
“Who came?”
Before she could answer—
machine gun fire erupted somewhere beyond the barracks.
RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT.
Soldiers shouted in panic.
Floodlights exploded into darkness one by one across the compound.
The storm swallowed the screams.
Then suddenly—
through the white snow—
dark figures appeared.
Fast-moving shadows in white winter camouflage advancing through the blizzard toward the compound walls.
Silent.
Precise.
Deadly.
One terrified guard whispered—
“Ghost Unit…”
The commander’s blood ran cold.
Because Ghost Unit wasn’t supposed to exist anymore.
Officially—
they were buried beneath Arctic ice three years ago alongside Captain Elena Voss.
But now—
they were here.
And they had come back for their commander.
The combat dogs suddenly stood alert around Elena while growls rumbled deep in their throats.
Snow swirled violently around her chained silhouette beneath the flashing red alarms.
Then slowly—
one of the Malinois stepped forward holding something in its mouth.
A combat knife.
The dog carefully dropped it beside her boots.
The soldiers froze in horror.
Elena stared down at the blade for one long moment.
Then calmly—
she bent down and picked it up despite the chains around her wrists.
SHINK.
The steel flashed beneath the storm.
And for the first time that night—
Captain Elena Voss smiled.
