PART 2: The Mark Beneath the Ashes

The arena changed instantly.

Not the noise—

the feeling.

Moments earlier, the crowd had roared for blood.

Now silence spread across the colosseum like a shadow moving over sunlight.

The king stood motionless beside his throne.

Eyes locked on the glowing scar beneath the boy’s collar.

“That mark…” he whispered again, weaker this time.

“No one else could bear it.”

Below, the colossal beast prowled across the sand, chains dragging behind its massive body.

But something was wrong.

It wasn’t charging.

It wasn’t roaring anymore.

Its burning eyes had fixed completely on the boy.

Watching him.

Recognizing him.

The boy slowly lifted his head toward the royal throne high above the arena.

For the first time, the crowd saw his face clearly beneath the dust and sunlight.

Young.

Exhausted.

The Debt That Set Them Free

But calm in a way children were never supposed to be.

The king stepped forward suddenly.

“Stop the trial!” he shouted.

His voice cracked across the arena walls.

Too late.

The beast moved.

Gasps exploded through the crowd as the enormous creature lunged across the sand directly toward the child.

Guards screamed.
Nobles rose in panic.
The queen covered her mouth in horror.

But the boy never flinched.

Instead—

he raised one trembling hand toward the charging monster.

And the glowing scar beneath his skin burned brighter.

The beast stopped instantly.

Its claws carved deep trenches through the arena floor as it skidded to a halt only inches from him.

The entire colosseum froze.

Then something impossible happened.

The giant creature slowly lowered its head.

Not defeated.

Not wounded.

Obedient.

The Fall That Changed Everything

A terrified whisper spread through the crowd.

“The beast… kneels.”

The king’s breathing became uneven.

Because he remembered now.

Years ago.

The fire.
The rebellion.
The night his infant son vanished beneath the burning palace.

And the mark.

The same cross-shaped scar the royal bloodline carried for generations—

a symbol no outsider could survive bearing.

The boy touched the beast’s scarred face gently.

And when he finally spoke, his voice carried across the silent arena with terrifying clarity.

“You told the kingdom your son died.”

His eyes lifted toward the throne.

“But you never searched the catacombs beneath the city.”

The king staggered backward.

Like the truth itself had struck him harder than any weapon.

And all around the arena—

the people slowly began realizing the horrifying possibility.

The child standing beside the monster wasn’t a prisoner.

Wasn’t a beggar.

Wasn’t a sacrifice.

He was the heir the kingdom buried alive.
