PART 2: The Archer the Kingdom Feared to Name

The flood didn’t stop for hours.

What remained of the invading army was erased beneath roaring water, shattered stone, and collapsing earth as Iron-Hold’s valley turned into a storm-driven grave.

Then—

silence.

Only rain returned.

The boy still stood on the outer wall, bow lowered, eyes fixed on the drowning battlefield below.

No celebration rose from the fortress.

No cheers.

Because the silence felt wrong.

Heavy footsteps approached behind him.

Captain Roderic.

He stopped a few meters away, staring at the boy like he was seeing him for the first time.

“You didn’t miss a single shot,” Roderic said quietly.

The boy didn’t respond.

He slowly pulled another obsidian arrow from his quiver.

Only two remained now.

Roderic noticed immediately.

“…there were five?”

The boy finally spoke, still facing the valley.

“I only needed three.”

The Debt That Set Them Free

A long pause followed.

Thunder rolled far in the distance, softer now.

Roderic stepped closer.

“You destroyed an entire army,” he said. “Do you understand what you’ve done?”

The boy’s expression didn’t change.

“They were already going to die,” he replied calmly.

Roderic frowned.

“That dam was ancient. It was sealed for a reason.”

At that, the boy turned slightly.

And for the first time—

something sharp flickered in his eyes.

“I know,” he said.

A distant horn echoed through the mountains.

Not the enemy.

Iron-Hold’s own alarm horns.

Confusion spread instantly across the battlements as soldiers rushed to the edges of the wall.

Roderic looked up sharply.

“What is that sound?”

Another horn answered from the opposite ridge.

Then another.

The Fall That Changed Everything

Then dozens.

From every direction beyond the valley, new banners rose through the storm.

Not the same army.

A second coalition.

Bigger.

Heavily armed.

Waiting.

Roderic’s face tightened.

“They used the first wave as a test…”

The boy calmly rested his bow against the stone.

“No,” he corrected quietly.

“They used it to wake me.”

A cold silence followed those words.

Roderic turned slowly toward him.

“Wake you for what?”

The boy looked back at the flooded valley—now reshaped into a brutal natural barrier filled with wreckage and sinking ground.

Then he answered:

“For what comes next.”

Far below, the floodwaters began to shift again.

Not from rain.

From movement beneath the surface.

Something was still alive in the valley.

Something large enough that even the flood hadn’t finished it.

And for the first time that night—

the kingdom realized the dam wasn’t the weapon.

The flood wasn’t the weapon either.

The boy on the wall was only the warning.

Behind them, Iron-Hold’s gates slowly began to close.

But the boy didn’t turn around.

Because whatever was coming next—

was already inside the valley.
