The mall fell silent.
The man stared at the gold dog tag.

His voice shook.
“Where did she get this?”

The girl looked between them.

“My mom said my dad abandoned us.”
The man slowly pulled an old photograph from his wallet.
It showed him holding the same dog tag years earlier.
“I never left.”
“I was told my daughter had died.”
The girl gasped.
Tears streamed down her face.
“You’ve been looking for me?”
He nodded.
“Every single day.”
The woman lowered her head.
The truth she had hidden for years had finally caught up with her.
The girl dropped her crutches and wrapped her arms around him.
For the first time in her life—
she wasn’t wondering where her father was.
