The Promise That Kept Them Together
The snowy courthouse square remained silent.
Abigail looked at the frontiersman with tearful eyes.
“Why would you help strangers?”
He smiled gently.
“My family was once shown the same kindness.”
The town official unfolded the papers.
“Everything is in order.”
He handed Abigail the document.
“No one will separate your children.”
The youngest boy wrapped his arms around the frontiersman’s waist.
“Are we really going home together?”
The man knelt and smiled.
“Every one of you.”
Abigail wiped away her tears.
“I’ll never forget this.”
The frontiersman tipped his hat.
“No child should lose a parent… and then lose a family too.”
As snow quietly blanketed the little Western town—
a promise made on the courthouse steps…
became the beginning of a warm home filled with hope, love, and a second chance.
