The bakery fell quiet.

“Open it.”

“The mortgage…”

The businessman nodded.
“You gave a hungry boy his dignity.”
“Today, I’m protecting yours.”
The baker stepped around the counter and embraced him tightly.
“I never expected anything back.”
The man smiled through his tears.
“That’s why you deserved everything.”
