The Wedding That Never Happened
The ballroom remained silent.
The groom lowered his head.
“I never ended our marriage.”
The bride slowly stepped back.
“You lied to me?”
He couldn’t answer.
The woman in black held her little child close.
“You promised we’d always be a family.”
An elderly judge who had been invited as a guest stepped forward and carefully examined the marriage certificate.
He looked at the groom.
“This marriage is legally valid.”
The bride removed the engagement ring with trembling hands and placed it in the groom’s palm.
“Then this wedding is over.”
Tears filled the groom’s eyes as he looked toward the woman he had abandoned years before.
“I’m sorry.”
She quietly shook her head.
“Your apology belongs to our child.”
The silent guests watched as the celebration came to an end—
because no new beginning…
