The Ring on the Floor

The ballroom remained silent.

No one touched their drinks.

The tuxedoed man handed the phone to security.

Then—

something caught the maid’s eye.

A gold signet ring.

Lying beside the shattered glass.

She picked it up carefully.

The woman in white gasped.

“My ring…”

The maid looked at her.

Then at the video.

The same ring appeared on the hand that had dropped the pill into the drink.

The tuxedoed man’s face hardened.

He slowly turned toward the woman.

“Explain.”

Her confidence vanished.

She stepped backward.

“I… I can explain.”

Before she could run, security blocked the doors.

The Debt That Set Them Free

The maid stood silently.

Still holding the ring.

Tears filled her eyes.

The tuxedoed man gently took off his jacket and placed it over her shoulders.

Then looked at the guests.

“She wasn’t the one who ruined this evening.”

“She saved every person in this room.”

The ballroom erupted into stunned silence.

Because the maid they had judged first—

had been the bravest person there all along.
