The waitress lowered her eyes.
“I was only doing my job.”
The owner smiled gently.
“No.”

He reached into his coat and placed a small set of keys on the counter.
The manager stared in disbelief.
“What are those?”
The owner looked at the waitress.
“They’re yours.”
She blinked in confusion.
“My apartment?”
He shook his head.
“The diner.”
A gasp swept through the room.
“You’ve treated people like family for twenty years.”
He smiled proudly.
“It’s time this place belonged to someone who understands what kindness is worth.”
The waitress covered her mouth as tears streamed down her face.
