The Promise Returned

Twenty years later, the same diner stood on the same corner.

The waitress, now older, quietly wiped the empty tables.

The door opened.

A well-dressed man walked in carrying a young homeless boy.

He smiled through tears.

“Do you remember two boys from a rainy night?”

The waitress looked closer.

Her eyes filled with tears.

“You kept your promise.”

The man nodded.

“You fed us when we had nothing.”

Then he placed an envelope on the counter.

“Today, this diner will feed every hungry child for free.”

The waitress smiled.

Because one bowl of soup had become a lifetime of kindness.
