The Drawing He Never Forgot
The little boy held the warm loaf tightly.
Rain soaked his clothes.
But he couldn’t stop smiling.
Before leaving—
he reached into his pocket.
And pulled out a folded piece of paper.
He handed it to the baker.
“For you.”
She unfolded it carefully.
It was a crayon drawing.
A little bakery.
A smiling woman.
And a small boy holding a loaf of bread.
The baker’s eyes filled with tears.
“You drew this?”
The boy nodded shyly.
“So you don’t forget me.”
Then he disappeared into the rain.
Years passed.
The bakery grew older.
The baker’s hair turned gray.
Business became harder each year.
One quiet morning—
a black car stopped outside.
A well-dressed young man stepped inside carrying a picture frame.
He smiled warmly.
“Do you still remember this?”
The baker looked at the frame.
Inside was the same crayon drawing.
Perfectly preserved.
Her hands began to tremble.
“You kept it…”
The young man nodded.
“You gave me my first meal.”
“I wanted to keep the first gift I ever gave someone.”
Then—
he placed a folder on the counter.
The baker looked at it in confusion.
“What is this?”
The young man smiled through tears.
“The loan is paid.”
“The bakery is yours forever.”
The elderly baker covered her mouth.
Unable to speak.
The young man gently hugged her.
His voice filled with gratitude.
“You told me kindness doesn’t have a price.”
“But today…”
“I finally found a way to say thank you.”
And in that little bakery—
one loaf of bread had come back as a lifetime of hope.
