The Ride Through Red Canyon

The black horse thundered across the desert path.

Dust rose behind them in thick waves.

The woman held tightly to the cowboy’s coat, still trembling from fear.

Her breathing hadn’t slowed.

Not yet.

The canyon stretched endlessly around them—red cliffs, sharp rocks, empty silence broken only by hoofbeats.

The cowboy glanced back slightly.

“You hurt?” he asked.

She shook her head quickly.

“No… just scared.”

Before he could answer—

another sound echoed through the canyon.

Hoofbeats.

More than one.

Behind them.

Fast.

The woman turned pale instantly.

“They found me…” she whispered.

The cowboy’s expression hardened.

His grip tightened on the reins.

The Debt That Set Them Free

“How many?”

“I—I don’t know,” she stammered. “Three… maybe four.”

The horse pushed harder through the rocky trail.

Wind cutting through the fading sunlight.

The cowboy looked ahead toward a narrow canyon pass.

A hidden route.

“We’re not staying out in the open,” he said firmly.

The woman held tighter.

Fear returning all over again.

“Why are you helping me?” she asked quietly.

For a moment, he didn’t answer.

Then finally—

“Because someone should.”

The horse turned sharply into the narrow canyon.

Dust exploded around them.

The sound of chasing hoofbeats growing louder behind.

But the cowboy never slowed.

Never looked afraid.

Only focused.

Protective.

The Fall That Changed Everything

And as the sun dipped lower across the desert sky, the woman realized something for the first time since running—

she wasn’t alone anymore.
