The Groundskeeper Owned More Than Anyone Expected
The country club fell silent.
The millionaire stared at the groundskeeper in disbelief.
“You?” he muttered.
“The shareholders are waiting for you?”
The groundskeeper calmly handed his gardening gloves to an assistant.
“Yes,” he replied.
The club president smiled respectfully.
“Everyone is ready, sir.”
Guests exchanged confused glances.
Many of them had seen the man working around the club for months.
They assumed he was just another employee.
The millionaire laughed nervously.
“There must be some mistake.”
The president’s expression hardened.
“There is no mistake.”
He turned toward the crowd.
“Allow me to introduce Mr. Daniel Hart.”
Several members immediately gasped.
The name was famous in business circles.
Daniel Hart was the majority shareholder of the club and founder of a billion-dollar investment company.
The millionaire’s face turned pale.
“But… why would someone like him work in the gardens?”
Daniel looked around at the perfectly maintained flowers.
“Because I enjoy it.”
The crowd remained speechless.
Daniel slowly walked toward the entrance.
“My grandfather taught me something when I was young.”
Everyone listened carefully.
“He said that if success makes you feel too important to work with your own hands, then success has already ruined you.”
A few guests lowered their eyes.
The millionaire suddenly remembered his earlier comments.
His confidence vanished.
“Mr. Hart, I apologize,” he said quickly.
“I didn’t know who you were.”
Daniel stopped walking.
Then he turned back.
“The problem isn’t that you didn’t know who I was.”
The millionaire swallowed nervously.
“The problem is how you treated someone you believed had no status.”
The words struck the crowd harder than any insult.
An uncomfortable silence spread through the club.
Then the president approached Daniel with another folder.
“There’s one more matter that requires your approval before the meeting.”
Daniel opened the folder.
His expression immediately changed.
“What is it?” asked the president.
Daniel looked toward the millionaire.
The color drained from the man’s face.
Inside the folder were complaints filed by employees over the past three years.
Every complaint mentioned the same member.
The same millionaire.
Reports of bullying.
Harassment.
Abuse of staff.
Daniel slowly closed the folder.
The crowd watched nervously.
“Interesting,” he said calmly.
The millionaire took a step backward.
“Sir, I can explain.”
Daniel shook his head.
“No.”
He handed the folder back to the president.
“I think the board meeting just found its first agenda item.”
The millionaire’s legs nearly gave out.
Because for the first time, he realized that the quiet groundskeeper he mocked wasn’t simply attending the shareholders meeting.
He was the man who would be leading it.
