The Diner and the Wolf Tattoo
A muscular man in a black leather vest sat inside a brightly lit diner, calmly eating a burger while the low hum of conversation filled the room.
A young blonde girl with a rainbow backpack stood nearby.
Frozen.
Watching him like she had finally found something she didn’t fully understand.
“Sir?” she whispered softly.
The man paused mid-bite.
Looked up.
“Hey, is everything okay?” he asked gently.
The girl stepped closer.
Her voice trembled.
“He’s not my dad.”
The man’s expression changed instantly.
Calmness disappeared.
Something sharper took its place.
“Stay behind me. Don’t move.”
The diner quieted slightly.
Chatter fading into background noise.
The girl didn’t run.
Instead—
she slowly raised her hand.
Pointed at his forearm.
A wolf tattoo.
Half-hidden beneath his sleeve.
“My mom said if I see this sign…”
The man’s eyes narrowed.
Focus tightening.
“Your mom’s name?” he asked firmly.
The girl swallowed hard.
“Jessica.”
Silence.
The burger stopped mid-air in his hand.
The sound of the diner felt suddenly far away.
His face went pale.
For the first time—
he didn’t look like a man eating in a diner.
He looked like a man remembering something he tried to bury.
And in that stillness—
he realized this was not a coincidence.
