The Bracelet That Shouldn’t Exist Twice
The rain softened slightly, but no one moved to escape it.
Not anymore.
The boy in the tuxedo stood at the edge of the marble steps, staring at the bracelet on the ground.
Then at his wrist.
Then back again.
Boy (confused):
“Mom…?”
His voice was small.
Uncertain.
The woman in white stepped forward quickly, panic flashing across her face.
Woman:
“Don’t go out there.”
But he had already started walking.
One step.
Then another.
Bare feet of polished leather shoes hitting wet stone.
Behind him, guests whispered louder now.
Guest:
“This doesn’t make sense…”
Another:
“How can there be two?”
The girl in the pink dress stayed frozen in the rain.
She wasn’t crying anymore.
She was just staring at him.
As if she had seen a ghost.
When the boy finally reached the fallen bracelet, he crouched down.
Slowly.
Carefully.
He picked it up.
Held it next to the one on his wrist.
The same design.
The same engraving.
Identical.
Boy (softly):
“They’re the same…”
His hands started to tremble.
He looked up at the girl.
Boy:
“Where did you get this?”
The girl’s lips shook.
Girl:
“From my mom…”
Silence hit the entire driveway.
Even the rain seemed quieter.
The boy stood up slowly.
He turned toward the mansion.
Boy:
“Mom… what is going on?”
The woman in white didn’t answer.
She couldn’t.
Her entire body had gone rigid.
Guests behind her began stepping back instinctively.
Because now they were noticing something else.
The girl.
Her eyes.
Her face.
The same shape.
The same expression.
The same fear.
A guest whispered sharply.
Guest:
“She looks like him…”
Another voice:
“No… she looks like the boy.”
The boy stepped closer to the girl again.
This time, more carefully.
Boy:
“What’s your name?”
The girl swallowed hard.
Girl:
“Emily…”
The name landed like a shockwave.
The boy froze.
Boy:
“I had a sister named Emily…”
The world seemed to tilt.
The woman in white finally rushed forward.
Woman (panicked):
“Stop this!”
But it was too late.
The boy was already looking at her.
Boy:
“Mom… tell me the truth.”
A long silence followed.
Only rain.
Only breathing.
Only fear.
Then—
the woman in white closed her eyes.
And everything inside her collapsed.
Woman (broken whisper):
“I didn’t want it to happen like this…”
Gasps erupted instantly.
The guests surged forward in confusion.
The girl stepped back instinctively.
The boy stood still.
Waiting.
The woman shook her head, tears mixing with rain.
Woman:
“You weren’t supposed to remember her.”
The boy’s voice cracked.
Boy:
“Remember who?”
A pause.
Then the woman finally said it.
Woman:
“Your sister.”
The word hit harder than thunder.
The girl’s eyes widened.
The boy dropped the bracelet.
It clattered onto the wet stone.
Slowly rolling toward the girl’s feet.
The world fell completely silent.
Because in that moment—
the mansion full of luxury, celebration, and music…
no longer mattered.
Only the truth did.
And it had just walked out into the rain.
