The Bunny That Found Its Way Home

The girl knelt in the gravel, still shaking as she stroked the puppy’s fur.

“You came back…” she whispered, voice cracking between relief and disbelief.

The Golden Retriever wagged harder, pressing the stuffed bunny closer to her knees like it was proud of what it had done.

From the diner doorway, a waitress paused, watching quietly with a soft smile.

“That’s one clever pup,” she said under her breath.

The girl looked up, clutching Daisy tightly.

“She didn’t run away,” she said quickly, almost defensive. “She just got lost.”

The waitress nodded.

“Looks like she knew exactly where to go.”

A moment of calm settled over the gravel lot.

Then a car door slammed nearby.

A man hurried across the parking lot, scanning wildly.

“Daisy!” he called.

The puppy’s ears perked instantly.

The girl stood up fast, suddenly nervous again.

The man stopped when he saw her holding the dog.

“Oh—thank God,” he said, breathing out sharply. “I thought she was gone for good.”

The girl stepped slightly in front of the puppy, protective.

“She brought my bunny back,” she said.

The man softened.

The Debt That Set Them Free

“She always does that,” he replied gently. “She steals it when she’s scared… and brings it back when she’s not.”

The girl looked down at Daisy.

“You were scared?” she asked softly.

The puppy licked her hand.

The man crouched down.

“Thank you for keeping her company,” he said.

The girl hesitated, then smiled a little.

“I think she was keeping me company too.”

The man nodded, looking between them.

“Funny thing about lost things,” he said quietly. “Sometimes they don’t come back the same way they left.”

The puppy barked once, tail thumping happily.

And under the warm afternoon sky, nothing felt missing anymore—only found.
