The Warrior the King Thought Was Dead
The throne room held its breath.
Rain battered stained glass.
Thunder rolled through ancient stone.
And still—
the warrior stood.
Unmoving.
Unshaken.
Water dripped slowly from torn armor onto polished marble.
The silence grew heavier.
Because everyone in the room felt it.
Something impossible had just walked through the palace doors.
The king slowly rose from the throne.
Hands gripping carved armrests tighter than before.
“No…” he whispered.
Not anger.
Not authority.
Fear.
Pure fear.
The blonde princess stepped forward suddenly.
Heart racing.
Tears trembling in frightened eyes.
“No…” she whispered too.
But hers carried something different.
Hope.
Pain.
Memory.
The young knight beside her swallowed hard.
Hands tightening around the hilt of his sword.
Because now—
he recognized him too.
The scar above the eye.
The worn wolf-shaped pendant hanging against bloodstained armor.
Impossible.
The kingdom had buried him.
Mourned him.
Forgotten him.
Yet somehow—
he stood alive.
The king’s voice cracked sharply through the silence.
“You died.”
Lightning shattered the sky.
The warrior finally spoke.
Low.
Calm.
Heavy with years.
“I almost did.”
Thunder rolled again.
Courtiers shifted nervously.
No one breathed.
The princess stepped closer.
Shaking now.
Her voice barely survived the silence.
“…brother?”
The word hit the room like war.
Gasps spread instantly.
The knight turned toward her in shock.
The king staggered backward.
“No.”
His voice came harder now.
Desperate.
“No.”
The warrior slowly lifted tired eyes toward the throne.
Rain still dripping from dark hair.
Pain flickered there.
Old pain.
Betrayal buried deep.
“You told them I died,” he said quietly.
The king’s jaw tightened.
Lightning illuminated the fear spreading across his face.
“You had to disappear.”
The room grew colder.
The warrior took one slow step forward.
Armor creaking softly.
“You sent me away.”
Another step.
“To die.”
The princess covered her mouth.
Tears spilling freely now.
Because memories returned.
A fire.
Screaming.
Blood.
The night her brother vanished.
The night no body was ever found.
The king’s breathing grew uneven.
“You don’t understand what was coming,” he said sharply.
“What I protected this kingdom from!”
The warrior stopped again.
Blue eyes colder now.
No anger.
Only certainty.
“You protected your throne.”
Lightning exploded across the stained glass.
And suddenly—
outside the palace—
came a sound.
Deep.
Massive.
Ancient.
A roar.
Not human.
Not war.
Something enormous moving through the storm.
The throne room trembled.
Guards reached for swords instantly.
Windows shook violently.
The knight turned pale.
“What… was that?”
The warrior never looked away from the king.
Instead—
quietly—
he said,
“I didn’t come back alone.”
Outside—
something colossal moved beneath the lightning.
And the kingdom began to panic.
