The Warrior the Fire Could Not Claim

The battlefield burned.

Flames consumed shattered siege engines.

Collapsed banners smoldered beneath drifting ash.

The cries of the wounded echoed across the ruined plain.

Yet at the center of it all—

the warrior remained unmoving.

Smoke curled around his bronze armor.

Embers danced across his shield.

His black-plumed helmet faced the horizon.

Watching.

Waiting.

The wind suddenly shifted.

A deep horn echoed through the haze.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

Across the battlefield, surviving soldiers froze.

Veterans exchanged uneasy glances.

They recognized the signal.

And fear immediately spread through the ranks.

The Debt That Set Them Free

From somewhere beyond the wall of smoke, heavy footsteps began shaking the earth.

THUD.

THUD.

THUD.

The warrior slowly tightened his grip on his shield.

The flames reflected in the polished bronze surface.

Around him, mounted soldiers pulled back nervously.

No one wanted to stand where the sound was coming from.

The footsteps grew louder.

Closer.

The ground trembled.

Then—

A gigantic shadow emerged through the smoke.

At first, only its outline was visible.

Massive.

Towering.

Impossible.

The smoke parted.

Gasps erupted across the battlefield.

A colossal warrior stepped into view.

The Fall That Changed Everything

His armor was blackened and scarred.

His helmet bore the horns of a fallen beast.

Ancient runes glowed faintly across his chest plate.

And strapped across his back was a sword so enormous that no ordinary man could lift it.

The battlefield fell silent.

Even the fires seemed to crackle more softly.

The giant warrior stopped.

His gaze locked onto the bronze-clad fighter standing alone amid the destruction.

Neither spoke.

Neither moved.

The tension was unbearable.

Finally, an elderly commander watching from a distant ridge whispered in horror.

Commander: “He’s alive…”

The words spread rapidly through the surviving ranks.

Soldier: “Who is he?”

The commander’s face turned pale.

Commander: “The Ash King.”

Fear rippled through thousands of soldiers.

Legends surrounded that name.

Stories whispered around campfires.

Tales of entire armies broken in a single day.

Most believed he had died years ago.

Now he stood before them.

Very much alive.

The Ash King slowly drew the enormous sword from his back.

The sound echoed like thunder.

Metal scraped against metal.

Sparks flew into the smoky air.

Across the battlefield, soldiers began retreating instinctively.

No command was given.

Instinct alone drove them backward.

Only one man remained where he stood.

The bronze warrior.

Unmoving.

Unafraid.

The Ash King pointed the giant blade toward him.

Ash King (deeply): “So you survived.”

The bronze warrior finally spoke.

His voice was calm.

Measured.

Like a man greeting an old enemy.

Warrior: “You sound disappointed.”

A faint smile appeared beneath the Ash King’s scarred face.

Ash King: “I hoped the fire would finish what I started.”

The battlefield watched in complete silence.

Thousands of eyes fixed upon the two warriors.

Ancient enemies.

Living legends.

The bronze warrior lowered his shield slightly.

Warrior: “You taught me something that day.”

The Ash King tilted his head.

Warrior: “Fire doesn’t destroy everything.”

A gust of wind swept across the battlefield.

Ash spiraled into the sky.

The warrior slowly removed his helmet.

Gasps echoed through the ranks.

A long scar crossed his face.

His dark hair was streaked with grey.

His eyes carried the weight of countless battles.

Yet they burned with unbroken determination.

The Ash King’s expression hardened.

Because he recognized those eyes.

The same eyes he had failed to extinguish years ago.

The bronze warrior raised his sword.

Flames reflected along the blade.

Warrior: “Some things survive.”

Lightning flashed beyond the smoke-covered horizon.

Thunder rolled across the burning world.

The Ash King smiled.

Not with joy.

With anticipation.

After years of war.

Years of bloodshed.

Years of waiting.

The battle he had sought was finally before him.

He lifted the colossal sword.

The bronze warrior raised his shield.

Across the devastated battlefield, every soldier held their breath.

Because history was about to witness the clash of two warriors whose names would be remembered long after the fires had faded.

Then—

both men charged.
