PART 2: The Prisoner Who Knew the Truth
The king’s expression froze instantly.
Rain continued falling across the execution platform as the crowd’s whispers slowly disappeared into silence.
Only the crackling torches remained.
The chained prisoner lifted his head fully now, blood and rainwater dripping from his beard onto the wooden platform below.
No fear.
No desperation.
Only certainty.
The king stepped closer slowly.
“What did you say?” he asked quietly.
The prisoner’s faint smile deepened.
“I said…” he muttered calmly, “your son was not taken by enemies.”
A ripple of unease spread through the armored knights.
One guard tightened his grip on his spear.
Another exchanged nervous glances toward the king.
Because nobody in the kingdom spoke about the prince anymore.
Not after the disappearance.
Not after the war that followed.
The king’s voice hardened.
“You lie to save your own life.”
But the prisoner shook his head slowly.
“No.”
Close-up—
his bruised eyes locked directly onto the crown.
“You already killed everyone else who knew.”
The rain grew heavier.
Water streamed down the red velvet cape hanging from the king’s shoulders while distant thunder rolled across the dark sky.
The prisoner leaned slightly against the chains.
Metal creaked loudly.
“That night…” he continued softly, “the prince never left the castle.”
Silence crashed across the square.
The king’s breathing changed instantly.
Small.
Uneven.
Behind him, one older knight slowly lowered his eyes toward the ground.
The prisoner noticed.
And smiled.
“You remember now, don’t you?”
The king spun toward the knight sharply.
But before he could speak—
the prisoner whispered something that shattered the entire execution ground.
“He wasn’t kidnapped.”
A pause.
Then—
“You ordered his death yourself.”
Gasps exploded through the crowd.
The older knight closed his eyes in shame.
And for the first time beneath the burning torches—
the king looked afraid.
