PART 2: The Ghost Handler
Red emergency alarms screamed across the frozen Arctic base while violent snow blasted through the prison yard beneath flashing warning lights.
Soldiers stumbled backward in panic.
Rifles trembled in gloved hands.
And at the center of the chaos—
the massive Belgian Malinois stood protectively in front of the chained prisoner.
Growling.
Teeth bared beneath the storm.
The commander struggled violently beneath the dog pinned against his chest.
“GET THIS ANIMAL OFF ME!”
But the Malinois refused to move.
Across the compound—
every military dog had gone wild.
Chains rattled.
Handlers shouted desperately.
Snow exploded beneath clawing paws.
Yet none of the dogs were attacking the prisoner.
They were trying to reach her.
One terrified handler stared through the blizzard in disbelief.
“This can’t be happening…”
The female prisoner slowly lifted her bruised face toward the storm-dark sky.
Snow gathered across her frozen hair and tactical jacket.
Then slowly—
her eyes locked onto the Belgian Malinois protecting her.
Recognition flashed across her face.
“Ranger…”
The dog instantly stopped growling.
Its ears lifted.
And beneath the screaming Arctic wind—
the combat dog whimpered softly like it had been waiting years to hear its name again.
The commander’s expression changed instantly.
Fear replaced anger.
“No…”
He stared directly at the prisoner.
“That’s impossible.”
The woman stepped forward slowly despite the chains around her wrists.
The Malinois stayed glued to her side.
One soldier lowered his rifle shakily.
Because now he remembered the classified rumors whispered through military intelligence years ago.
The Ghost Handler.
Captain Eva Mercer.
The only K9 commander in Arctic Warfare Division history capable of controlling entire combat packs without commands.
Officially killed during Operation Black Tundra.
Buried beneath Arctic ice after her unit vanished.
Except—
standing there beneath the storm—
she was alive.
And the dogs knew it before the soldiers did.
Suddenly—
BOOM.
A distant explosion shook the frozen compound.
Searchlights flickered violently.
Snow fell from guard towers.
“What the hell was that?!”
Another explosion thundered somewhere beyond the perimeter fence.
Then—
gunfire erupted through the blizzard.
RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT.
The entire base descended into chaos.
Soldiers scrambled toward defensive positions while alarms screamed louder across the compound.
But the military dogs ignored every human command.
Instead—
one by one—
the Malinois broke free from their handlers.
Chains snapped.
Leashes tore loose.
And through the swirling snow—
the dogs began surrounding Eva Mercer protectively.
Six.
Then ten.
Then more.
An entire circle of combat-trained killers standing between her and the armed soldiers.
The commander slowly crawled backward through the snow in horror.
“She trained all of them…”
Eva’s expression hardened instantly.
Because now—
she understood something terrifying.
The dogs hadn’t attacked randomly.
They recognized the people who betrayed her unit.
A frightened young soldier pointed toward the northern fence line.
Shapes were moving through the storm.
Fast.
Human silhouettes dressed in white Arctic camouflage emerging from the blizzard itself.
One soldier’s voice cracked with fear.
“Sir… those are Ghost Division markings…”
The commander’s face went pale.
Because Ghost Division was wiped out years ago.
Officially.
But now—
they were walking out of the storm.
Coming back for their commander.
Eva slowly lifted her chained hands while snow swirled around her beneath the flashing red alarms.
Then Ranger stepped forward and dropped something at her boots.
A rusted silver combat knife.
Her knife.
The same blade issued to Ghost Division before Operation Black Tundra.
Silence swallowed the frozen yard.
Eva bent down slowly and picked it up.
SHINK.
The blade sliced clean through the restraint chain around her wrists.
And suddenly—
every military dog on the Arctic base sat beside her in complete loyalty.
