PART 2: The Lion Crest Beneath the Veil
Silence swallowed the cathedral whole.
The laughter was gone.
Only the crackling of candles and the distant echo of steel remained beneath the towering stone arches.
The nobleman stood protectively in front of the crying young woman—
his drawn sword raised toward the older noblewoman dressed in burgundy velvet.
Fear slowly spread across the cathedral.
Because every noble in the kingdom recognized the golden lion crest embroidered into the torn white veil lying on the stone floor.
And everyone knew that crest had vanished years ago.
Destroyed.
Erased.
Or so they believed.
The older noblewoman’s face slowly tightened with panic beneath the torchlight.
“You dare threaten me in the king’s cathedral?”
The man in the dark blue cloak never lowered his blade.
His voice remained calm.
Cold.
“You touched royal blood.”
Gasps instantly spread through the crowd.
The young woman looked upward through tears in complete confusion.
“Royal…?”
Nearby guards exchanged nervous glances while several nobles quietly stepped backward beneath the arches.
The older woman pointed toward the kneeling girl desperately.
“She’s nothing!”
“A servant!”
“A disgrace!”
Without warning—
the nobleman slammed his sword downward against the cathedral stone.
CLANG!
The violent sound thundered through the hall.
Several people flinched.
The candles themselves seemed to tremble.
Then slowly—
the man lowered his hood.
Dark hair.
Battle scars across his jaw.
Cold gray eyes filled with fury.
One elderly knight near the cathedral entrance suddenly went pale.
“No…”
“It can’t be…”
The nobleman’s gaze swept across the terrified crowd.
“My name is Cedric Valemont.”
Shock exploded through the cathedral.
Whispers erupted instantly beneath the arches.
“Valemont?”
“They were executed—”
“The Lion House fell twenty years ago!”
The crying young woman stared at him helplessly from the floor.
Cedric slowly bent down beside her.
Then carefully—
with unexpected gentleness—
he picked up the torn veil from the cold stone.
The golden lion crest shimmered softly beneath the candlelight.
“You were never meant to wear this in chains,” he whispered quietly.
The girl’s trembling lips parted slightly.
“I don’t understand…”
Cedric looked directly into her tear-filled eyes.
“Because they stole your name before you were old enough to remember it.”
Silence crushed the cathedral again.
The older noblewoman staggered backward in fear.
“You lie.”
Cedric rose slowly to his feet.
Then turned toward the nobles watching in horror.
“The rightful bloodline of Valemont still lives.”
Every guard in the cathedral suddenly became uncertain.
Some slowly lowered their weapons.
Others looked toward the kneeling girl with growing disbelief.
The young woman stared down at the golden lion crest trembling in her hands.
Fragments of memory flickered behind her eyes.
A woman singing softly.
Golden banners moving in sunlight.
A burning castle beneath smoke and screams.
Tears rolled harder down her cheeks.
Cedric’s expression softened for the first time.
“Princess Evelyne…”
The name hit her like thunder.
The entire cathedral froze.
Because the lost Princess Evelyne Valemont had supposedly died as a child during the royal purge.
And now—
she knelt alive beneath the candlelight.
The older noblewoman’s voice cracked in panic.
“Seize them!”
But no guards moved.
Not one.
Then suddenly—
an armored knight near the pews stepped forward slowly.
And dropped to one knee.
“For House Valemont.”
The sound echoed across the cathedral floor.
Another knight followed.
Then another.
One by one—
steel armor struck stone beneath the candlelight as soldiers knelt throughout the cathedral.
The nobles watched in absolute horror.
Because the kingdom’s forgotten lions…
had finally awakened.
