PART 2: The Name the Arena Buried
The royal arena didn’t move.
No cheers.
No chants.
No rustling of armor.
Just a silence so heavy it pressed against the stone stands.
The chained beast inside the iron gate let out a low, uneasy growl—but even that felt distant now.
The king gripped the edge of his throne.
“…Impossible,” he whispered.
The boy stood alone in the sand below, wind tugging at his torn clothes.
The burned sword mark on his shoulder was still visible—uneven, scorched into skin that had clearly survived something it shouldn’t have.
The royal advisor stepped forward quickly.
“Your Majesty, it’s a trick. A slave trying to—”
“Stop,” the king said sharply.
His voice cracked slightly on the word.
Because his eyes weren’t leaving the boy.
They were seeing something else.
A memory.
A smaller child.
A palace corridor.
Fire.
The king slowly rose from his throne.
For the first time in decades, the entire arena watched him without understanding what they were witnessing.
He stepped down one stair.
Then another.
Nobles leaned forward in confusion.
“Why is he walking down…?” someone whispered.
The boy didn’t move.
Didn’t retreat.
He just waited.
The king reached the edge of the arena platform and stopped.
His voice came out quieter now.
“What did you just say?”
The boy’s expression didn’t change.
“I said I never died,” he repeated.
A pause.
Then he added:
“You buried the wrong body.”
The arena erupted instantly in confused shouting.
But the king didn’t hear it.
His breathing had changed.
Because the memory he had tried to bury for years was no longer staying buried.
Fifteen years ago.
A palace rebellion.
A fire in the west wing.
And a missing prince whose body was never recovered.
The king’s hand trembled slightly.
“…show me,” he said hoarsely.
The boy looked toward the chained beast behind him.
The massive creature suddenly stopped struggling.
It lowered its head.
Not in rage.
In recognition.
The beast’s chains creaked violently as it shifted its weight toward the boy.
The crowd panicked instantly.
“IT’S BREAKING FREE!”
Guards raised spears.
But the boy raised one hand.
And the beast stopped.
Completely.
Silence returned again, even sharper than before.
The king’s face drained of all certainty.
“That beast…” he whispered.
The boy finally looked up at him fully.
“It remembers me,” he said.
A long pause.
Then—
he took one step toward the throne.
And the entire arena reacted as one.
Not because of fear of the beast.
But because of the realization slowly spreading through the crowd:
The chained monster wasn’t responding to the boy.
It was obeying him.
The king’s voice broke.
“…what are you?”
The boy stopped.
For the first time, his expression softened slightly.
Not as a slave.
Not as a fighter.
But as someone returning to something unfinished.
“I am the name you tried to erase,” he said quietly.
“And the reason the kingdom never slept peacefully again.”
