PART 2: The Dragon That Chose the Orphan
The royal plaza fell into absolute silence.
Thousands stood frozen beneath the golden sunrise as glowing cracks spread across the giant stone dragon’s body.
Dust rained from the ancient creature.
Its enormous eye burned like molten gold while the orphan boy struggled to hold the legendary sword against the violent magical energy surging through the pedestal.
The Guard Captain stepped backward in horror.
“That’s impossible…”
The dragon moved.
Not much.
Just enough for the entire kingdom to feel the marble plaza tremble beneath their feet.
Nobles screamed and stumbled away from the platform while armored guards raised shields in panic.
“The dragon is waking!”
The orphan boy stared upward, terrified.
The sword in his hands glowed brighter and brighter as ancient symbols ignited across the blade.
Then suddenly—
The dragon lowered its gigantic head toward him.
The entire crowd stopped breathing again.
Because everyone knew the ancient prophecy.
The Dragon of Aetherion only bowed to one person.
The kingdom’s true protector.
King Valen slowly rose from his throne near the palace stairs, his face pale beneath the sunlight.
“No…” he whispered.
“That bloodline ended centuries ago.”
The orphan boy looked around in confusion.
“I don’t understand…”
But the dragon’s glowing eyes never left him.
Slowly…
the enormous creature knelt before the child.
The plaza erupted into chaos.
“Impossible!”
“The prophecy is real!”
“He touched the Guardian Sword!”
Several royal knights immediately drew weapons.
One noble pointed toward the boy in fear.
“He’s dangerous!”
But before anyone could move—
The sword suddenly unleashed another blast of golden energy.
BOOM.
A shockwave ripped across the plaza so violently that banners snapped apart above the crowd.
The dragon roared.
Not with rage.
With recognition.
The sound echoed across the entire kingdom.
Far beyond the castle walls.
Far into the mountains surrounding Aetherion.
And deep beneath the city itself…
something answered.
A second roar.
Older.
Larger.
Far more terrifying.
The dragon instantly lifted its head toward the distant mountains.
Fear spread across its glowing eyes.
The royal crowd fell silent again.
Because dragons were never supposed to fear anything.
Then the orphan boy heard a voice inside his mind.
Ancient.
Powerful.
Desperate.
“Run.”
The boy’s breathing stopped.
“What…?”
The dragon looked directly at him.
“HE HAS RETURNED.”
Suddenly—
The mountain far beyond the kingdom exploded.
Stone shattered into the sky as something massive began rising from beneath the earth.
Dark wings unfolded through clouds of dust and fire.
The sunlight vanished beneath its shadow.
Panic consumed the royal plaza instantly.
Because the creature emerging from the mountain was not stone.
Not sleeping.
Not ancient history.
It was alive.
And it was flying directly toward the Kingdom of Aetherion.
