PART 2: Beneath the Frozen Silence
The man at the edge of the ice couldn’t move.
Couldn’t even breathe properly.
His eyes stayed locked on the hand pressed against the underside of the frozen surface—just inches beneath his boots.
The ice was thick.
Too thick for anything to survive under it.
And yet—
something was looking back.
The second man stumbled backward.
“No… no, that’s not possible,” he muttered, voice cracking. “There’s nothing under there. It’s just water.”
But the water was no longer still.
It moved like it had a heartbeat.
Slow.
Deliberate.
Alive.
The hand beneath the ice slowly slid upward, fingers tracing the frozen barrier like it was searching for a weakness.
Then—
knock.
A single dull удар echoed through the ice.
Both men jerked back instantly.
The crack widened by a fraction.
A thin white line spread across the surface like a vein of breaking glass.
The first man raised his rifle, hands shaking.
“Back away,” he warned, though his voice had lost all authority.
The second man kept staring at the center of the crack.
At the exact spot where the hand had been.
Because now—
it wasn’t alone.
A second shadow appeared beneath the ice.
Then a third.
Shapes moving under frozen water that should have been empty.
The surface began to bulge upward slightly, as if something massive was pressing from below.
The ice groaned.
Deep.
Ancient.
Unnatural.
The man at the edge finally stepped back, panic replacing logic.
“We should leave,” he whispered.
But it was too late.
The hand beneath the ice suddenly pressed harder.
CRACK.
A sharp fracture shot outward.
The ice split directly beneath them.
And from the black water below—
a voice rose.
Not loud.
Not angry.
Just… certain.
“You came too close.”
The men froze completely.
Because the voice wasn’t coming from outside.
It was coming through the ice itself.
The second man dropped his flashlight.
Its beam hit the crack—
and revealed something rising slowly beneath the surface.
A face.
Too close.
Too clear.
Eyes open.
Staring straight up through the breaking ice.
Then the hand moved again—
and slammed upward with brutal force.
The entire frozen sheet exploded outward.
Ice shards flew into the storm.
Water erupted into the air like a breaking seal.
And something climbed out of the darkness beneath the frozen wasteland… for the first time in years.
