PART 2: The Prince Hidden Among Stable Dust

The royal courtyard of the royal palace stood frozen beneath the blazing afternoon sun.

Nobody moved.

Nobody even dared whisper too loudly.

Because Commander Marcus Vaelor remained kneeling before a terrified stable boy while the king’s monstrous war horse stood calmly beside him like an obedient guardian.

The silence felt impossible.

Luca stared down at the commander in shock, his sleeve clenched tightly over the dragon-shaped mark hidden beneath his wrist.

“My prince,” Vaelor repeated quietly.

Gasps spread through the gathered nobles.

Several guards exchanged alarmed looks.

And high above them on the marble balcony—

King Aldric slowly rose from his throne.

The old king’s face hardened instantly.

“What did you say?”

Vaelor lifted his head slowly but did not stand.

“The mark is real.”

Luca took a frightened step backward.

“You’re mistaken,” he whispered quickly. “I’m nobody.”

But the massive black war horse moved with him immediately, shielding the boy from the crowd with a low protective growl.

That alone terrified the royal court.

Because the beast answered to no one.

The Debt That Set Them Free

Not generals.

Not kings.

Not even executioners.

Only the bloodline of House Vaelor.

King Aldric descended the palace steps slowly beneath the burning sunlight, royal guards surrounding him with drawn swords.

The entire courtyard bowed instantly.

Everyone except Luca.

The boy stood frozen beside the horse, dusty clothes trembling in the hot wind.

A noblewoman whispered fearfully:

“That bloodline died years ago…”

Another answered shakily:

“We watched them burn.”

King Aldric stopped several feet from the boy and stared hard at the hidden wrist beneath Luca’s sleeve.

“Show me the mark.”

Luca shook his head immediately.

Panic flashed across his face.

“No.”

The king’s expression darkened.

“That was not a request.”

Before anyone could react—

The Fall That Changed Everything

the war horse suddenly slammed one iron-shod hoof against the marble hard enough to crack stone.

Guards jumped backward instantly.

The beast lowered its massive head beside Luca protectively, teeth bared toward the soldiers.

Commander Vaelor slowly rose to his feet.

“Your Majesty,” he said carefully, “the horse has chosen.”

Silence swallowed the courtyard again.

Because everyone understood what that meant.

The royal war beasts were trained from birth to recognize the ancient dragon bloodline.

And they never made mistakes.

King Aldric’s eyes narrowed dangerously.

“That line was erased.”

Vaelor looked directly at the king.

“So we were told.”

The words hit harder than steel.

Several older nobles suddenly looked nervous now.

Too nervous.

Luca noticed.

The boy slowly backed away from the king.

“I don’t want trouble,” he whispered.

King Aldric stepped forward.

But then—

an older woman near the back of the courtyard suddenly collapsed to her knees.

Tears filled her eyes as she stared at Luca.

“…Princess Elara.”

The entire court turned toward her instantly.

The old woman trembled violently.

“She had the same eyes.”

Luca froze.

Because he knew that name.

His mother whispered it once before she died.

Commander Vaelor looked at the woman sharply.

“You knew the princess?”

The woman nodded through tears.

“I served her.”

King Aldric’s voice turned cold instantly.

“Silence.”

But fear had already entered the courtyard.

Real fear.

Because the forgotten story was returning piece by piece.

Twenty years earlier—

the king’s younger sister, Princess Elara Vaelor, disappeared during a palace fire that killed nearly the entire royal bloodline.

The official story claimed no survivors existed.

Yet standing before them now—

a stable boy calmed the dragon horse with one touch.

And carried the royal mark hidden beneath his skin.

King Aldric looked at Luca with something darker than anger now.

Recognition.

Luca noticed it immediately.

“You knew,” the boy whispered.

The king said nothing.

Which was answer enough.

Commander Vaelor slowly turned toward the throne guards.

And for the first time in decades—

his hand drifted toward the sword at his hip.

The metallic sound echoed sharply across the silent courtyard.

Several royal knights instantly reacted.

Nobles stumbled backward in panic.

Because suddenly this wasn’t about a stable boy anymore.

This was succession.

Bloodline.

The throne itself.

King Aldric’s voice lowered dangerously.

“You forget your place, Commander.”

Vaelor finally stood fully upright beside Luca.

“No,” he answered quietly.

Then looked directly at the boy.

“I remember it.”

The black war horse reared violently again, shaking the entire courtyard with a thunderous scream.

Above them, dark storm clouds rolled suddenly across the bright sky as if the kingdom itself felt the shift.

Luca’s breathing became uneven.

He didn’t want crowns.

Didn’t want war.

But beneath the fear growing inside him—

something older had awakened.

The guards tightened formation around the king.

Vaelor stepped protectively in front of Luca.

And throughout the royal palace—

bells suddenly began ringing.

The ancient succession bells.

A sound the kingdom had not heard since the royal massacre.

Because somewhere deep inside the palace walls—

someone else had recognized the lost heir had finally returned.
