PART 2: The Pendant Mr. Vale Never Forgot
Rain poured through the narrow alley as Mr. Vale stood frozen beneath the yellow streetlights.
The frightened maid held her children tightly, expecting anger… expecting to lose everything.
But Mr. Vale wasn’t looking at her anymore.
His eyes stayed locked on the silver half-moon pendant hanging from the little boy’s neck.
A pendant he had not seen in six years.
His breathing slowly changed.
“Where did you get that?” he asked quietly.
The little boy stepped closer to his mother nervously.
“My dad gave it to me,” he whispered.
The rain suddenly felt colder.
Mr. Vale reached beneath his coat with trembling fingers and pulled out something hidden beneath his shirt.
The matching half.
The maid’s face instantly lost color.
“No…” she whispered weakly.
Pain flooded Mr. Vale’s eyes as memories crashed back all at once—late-night promises, a woman he once loved, and the night she disappeared without explanation after telling him she was pregnant.
He had searched for years.
But he was told both of them were gone.
The little boy stared at the second pendant in shock.
“They fit,” he whispered.
Slowly, Mr. Vale knelt in the rain until he stood face-to-face with the child.
“What was your father’s name?” he asked carefully.
The maid closed her eyes, tears mixing with rainwater before the boy could answer.
But it was too late.
“Daniel,” the child said softly.
Mr. Vale’s entire body froze.
Because Daniel was not only his middle name—
it was the fake identity he once used years earlier before becoming wealthy enough to erase pieces of his old life.
The maid began crying silently.
“I never wanted you to find out like this,” she whispered.
Thunder cracked above the alley while the children clung tightly to her coat.
Mr. Vale looked between them, his anger completely gone now.
The fake company papers no longer mattered.
Nothing mattered except the truth standing in front of him beneath the storm.
The child slowly looked up at him again.
“Mom…” he whispered carefully.
Then the heartbreaking question:
“Is he my dad?”
The alley fell silent except for rain.
And for the first time in years, Mr. Vale realized the life he thought he lost…
had been standing in front of him all along.
