PART 2: The Dogs Chose the Wrong Target

The attack dog flew through the air beneath the blazing industrial sun.

Jaws open.
Teeth inches from her throat.

The woman shut her eyes instinctively—

waiting for impact.

Then suddenly—

“PLATZ!”

The command exploded across the yard like thunder.

Instantly—

the massive Belgian Malinois twisted midair and slammed hard onto the concrete at her feet instead of attacking.

Dust burst across the training ground.

The other two dogs stopped charging immediately.

Silence crashed over the industrial yard.

The woman opened her eyes slowly.

Breathing hard.
Confused.

All three attack dogs now stood perfectly still around her.

Not aggressive anymore.

Watching.

Waiting.

Behind the fence, the silent men exchanged nervous looks for the first time all day.

Even the chains stopped rattling.

The Debt That Set Them Free

Then—

one of the dogs slowly walked toward the woman.

A huge scar running across its muzzle.

Military markings burned into the tactical harness strapped across its body.

The animal stopped directly beside her trembling legs.

Then gently—

pressed its head against her hand.

The woman froze.

“No…”

Her voice cracked.

The dog looked up at her with recognition.

Like it knew her.

Behind the second fence—

the man in the black suit suddenly stood from his steel chair.

His calm smile disappeared instantly.

“That’s impossible.”

The woman slowly stared down at the dog’s collar.

A faded metal tag scratched almost beyond recognition.

But one word remained visible beneath the dirt.

MARA

The Fall That Changed Everything

Her breathing stopped completely.

Tears filled her eyes.

Because Mara wasn’t just any military K9.

Mara had died three years ago during a classified operation overseas.

Or at least—

that’s what they told her.

The woman slowly dropped to her knees beneath the brutal sunlight.

“Mara…”

The Belgian Malinois immediately whined softly and licked the tears from her shaking hand.

The other two dogs moved closer now.

Not hunting.

Protecting.

The men behind the fence stepped backward uneasily as the animals formed a tight circle around her.

The suited man’s expression turned darker.

“Separate the dogs NOW!”

Nobody moved.

No trainer dared enter the yard.

Because every single dog remained locked on the man in black instead.

Growling.

Low.
Threatening.

The woman slowly looked up through tears.

“You used my unit’s dogs.”

The suited man said nothing.

And that silence told her everything.

The scorching wind moved dust across the concrete while memories crashed back into her mind.

Gunfire.
Smoke.
Helicopters.

And the mission where her entire team supposedly died.

Mara growled louder toward the suited man.

Then suddenly—

the oldest dog stepped forward carrying something clenched gently between its teeth.

A worn silver military tag.

The woman took it carefully with trembling hands.

And froze.

Her own name stared back at her from the metal surface.

CAPTAIN ELENA VASQUEZ — KIA

Killed in action.

Her eyes widened in horror.

“They buried me too…”

The silent men behind the fence exchanged stunned looks.

The suited man finally lost control completely.

“You were never supposed to survive Black Hollow!”

The dogs erupted into furious barking instantly.

Not at Elena.

At him.

Because beneath the burning industrial sun—

the truth finally became clear.

The attack dogs were never trained to kill her.

They were trained to remember her.

And now—

the only people in danger…

were the ones who betrayed her.
