“Let her stay,” he said.

Ethan looked at Lily carefully, as if seeing her for the first time.
“You don’t look scared,” he said.
Lily shook her head.
“I am,” she replied honestly. “But scared people still have to try.”

One of the guests lowered their phone slowly.

Ethan leaned back, his jaw tightening.

Lily looked up.
