PART 2: The Marine Coin Revealed a Dangerous Secret

The military hallway became deathly quiet.

Every soldier nearby stood frozen as General Marcus Ward stared at the crushed metal piece resting in the boy’s trembling hand.

His face had gone completely pale.

Because he recognized it instantly.

A locator chip.

Military issued.

And only assigned to one operation.

Project Black Echo.

The operation officially erased from government records fifteen years earlier.

General Ward slowly closed his hand around the old Marine coin, his breathing suddenly uneven.

“What else did your father tell you?” he asked carefully.

The young boy looked exhausted.

Like he hadn’t slept in days.

“He said if anything happened to him… I had to find you before they found me.”

Ward’s chest tightened immediately.

They.

Daniel used that word before.

Always quietly.
Always looking over his shoulder afterward.

The General glanced down the empty hallway before motioning sharply toward a private office.

“Inside. Now.”

The Debt That Set Them Free

Two armed guards sealed the doors behind them.

For several seconds, nobody spoke.

Rain hammered softly against the reinforced windows while the General stared at the boy sitting across from him.

He looked so much like Daniel it hurt.

Same eyes.
Same stubborn expression.

Even the way he clenched his fists during fear reminded Ward of the Marine who once dragged him through enemy fire while bleeding from three gunshot wounds.

“Your name?” the General finally asked.

“Ethan.”

Ward nodded slowly.

“How long has your father been missing?”

Ethan swallowed hard.

“Three weeks.”

The General closed his eyes briefly.

Because deep down…

he already knew.

Daniel Carter never truly escaped Black Echo.

Nobody did.

Years ago, the military experimented on elite soldiers during covert operations.

Enhanced endurance.
Suppressed fear.
Memory conditioning.

Officially, the program ended after catastrophic failures.

The Fall That Changed Everything

Unofficially…

survivors like Daniel were hunted afterward.

The General looked again at the crushed tracking chip in Ethan’s hand.

“You removed this?”

Ethan nodded shakily.

“My dad cut it out himself before he disappeared.”

Ward felt cold fear move through him.

Daniel knew they were close.

Very close.

Then Ethan quietly pulled something else from his jacket pocket.

A folded photograph.

Ward reached for it carefully.

The moment he saw the image…

his blood turned to ice.

The photo showed Daniel standing beside three heavily armed soldiers in black combat gear.

But one face in the picture changed everything.

General Ward himself.

Standing beside them.

Younger.
Wearing a Black Echo insignia on his uniform.

Ethan’s voice trembled.

“My father said if you lied to me… I should look at the man standing behind you.”

Ward’s heartbeat stopped.

Slowly…

he turned toward the office window behind his desk.

A reflection stared back at him.

Not his own.

Someone standing silently outside the glass.

Wearing black tactical gear.

And holding a rifle pointed directly at the room.
