The little girl hugged her bicycle.<\/p>\n

Tears streamed down her cheeks.<\/p>\n

She could hardly believe it.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou mean… I really get to keep it?\u201d<\/p>\n

The businessman smiled.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery child deserves something to ride home.\u201d<\/p>\n

The girl nodded happily.<\/p>\n

Then pedaled away as fast as she could.<\/p>\n

Her basket filled with groceries.<\/p>\n

Moments later\u2014<\/p>\n

she rushed into a small house at the end of the street.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have food!\u201d<\/p>\n

Her mother looked up from the couch.<\/p>\n

Weak.<\/p>\n

Pale.<\/p>\n

She smiled through tired eyes.<\/p>\n

Then she noticed something tucked inside the bicycle basket.<\/p>\n

A white envelope.<\/p>\n

Curious, she opened it.<\/p>\n

Inside was a handwritten note.<\/p>\n

No family should have to face hunger alone.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There was no signature.<\/p>\n

Only a small sketch of a bird.<\/p>\n

The mother’s hands began to tremble.<\/p>\n

Tears filled her eyes.<\/p>\n

She whispered,<\/p>\n

The little girl looked confused.<\/p>\n

\u201cMom?\u201d<\/p>\n

The woman hurried to an old drawer.<\/p>\n

She pulled out a faded photograph.<\/p>\n

In it stood a young man.<\/p>\n

Smiling.<\/p>\n

Holding the exact same bird sketch on a notebook.<\/p>\n

The businessman.<\/p>\n

Many years younger.<\/p>\n

The mother covered her mouth.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe’s the one…\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe helped me when I was your age.\u201d<\/p>\n

The little girl stared in amazement.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou knew him?\u201d<\/p>\n

The mother nodded through tears.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe saved me once.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd today…\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe saved us again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Outside\u2014<\/p>\n

the businessman quietly walked toward his car.<\/p>\n

Never knowing that the little girl he had helped<\/p>\n

was the daughter of the child whose life he had changed years before.<\/p>\n
