The bar stayed silent.<\/p>\n

Rain hammered the windows.<\/p>\n

The biker stared at the faded photograph in his hand like it had reached up from the grave.<\/p>\n

The little girl pressed tighter against his side.<\/p>\n

Shaking.<\/p>\n

The man in the brown jacket took one step forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat picture doesn\u2019t change anything,\u201d he snapped. \u201cShe\u2019s coming with me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The biker slowly lifted his eyes from the photograph.<\/p>\n

They were different now.<\/p>\n

Colder.<\/p>\n

More dangerous.<\/p>\n

He tucked the picture into the inside pocket of his vest and rested one hand protectively on the girl\u2019s shoulder.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s your name, kid?\u201d<\/p>\n

Her voice came out small.<\/p>\n

Broken.<\/p>\n

\u201cEmma.\u201d<\/p>\n

The biker nodded once.<\/p>\n

Then looked at the man in the doorway.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd yours?\u201d<\/p>\n

The man hesitated.<\/p>\n

Just for a second.<\/p>\n

Too long.<\/p>\n

That was all the biker needed.<\/p>\n

Before the stranger could answer, Emma grabbed the biker\u2019s arm and whispered through tears\u2014<\/p>\n

\u201cMy mama said if he ever found us\u2026 I had to run to Uncle Jace.\u201d<\/p>\n

The room changed instantly.<\/p>\n

Every biker in the bar straightened.<\/p>\n

The man in the doorway went pale.<\/p>\n

His voice was low.<\/p>\n

Final.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are.\u201d<\/p>\n

The man backed up half a step.<\/p>\n

Jace took one step toward him.<\/p>\n

Then another.<\/p>\n

Boots heavy against the wood floor.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou got exactly five seconds to tell me where Lena is\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

He stopped just inches away.<\/p>\n

Eyes locked on the man\u2019s face.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026before every man in this bar decides whether they want to help me ask a second time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Behind him, Emma clung to the edge of his vest and tried not to cry.<\/p>\n

Because the second she said Lena\u2019s name\u2014<\/p>\n

this stopped being a runaway child in a biker bar.<\/p>\n
