The woman held his hands gently.<\/p>\n
Tears shining in her eyes.<\/p>\n
“You probably don’t remember me,” she said softly.<\/p>\n
The vendor looked closer.<\/p>\n
At her face.<\/p>\n
At the emotion in her voice.<\/p>\n
Then slowly shook his head.<\/p>\n
“I’m sorry, miss.”<\/p>\n
The woman smiled.<\/p>\n
A sad, grateful smile.<\/p>\n
“You gave a little girl a chocolate ice cream.”<\/p>\n
“A girl who couldn’t pay.”<\/p>\n
The vendor’s expression changed.<\/p>\n
Not recognition yet.<\/p>\n
Just curiosity.<\/p>\n
The woman glanced toward the bright city lights.<\/p>\n
Remembering.<\/p>\n
“I told you it was my first ice cream.”<\/p>\n
“And you told me to enjoy every bite.”<\/p>\n
The old vendor went completely still.<\/p>\n
A memory returning from decades ago.<\/p>\n
A small girl.<\/p>\n
Torn clothes.<\/p>\n

A chocolate cone.<\/p>\n
His eyes widened.<\/p>\n
“Oh my goodness…”<\/p>\n
The woman laughed softly through her tears.<\/p>\n
“Yeah.”<\/p>\n
“That was me.”<\/p>\n
The vendor’s hands began to tremble.<\/p>\n
“You grew up.”<\/p>\n
The woman nodded.<\/p>\n
“Because people like you helped me.”<\/p>\n
A long silence followed.<\/p>\n
Then she reached into her purse.<\/p>\n
Carefully removing a folded document.<\/p>\n
The vendor looked down at it.<\/p>\n
Confused.<\/p>\n
“What is this?”<\/p>\n
The woman placed it gently into his hands.<\/p>\n
“It’s the deed.”<\/p>\n
“To your new ice cream shop.”<\/p>\n
The vendor blinked.<\/p>\n
Unable to understand.<\/p>\n
The woman smiled again.<\/p>\n
Warm.<\/p>\n
Grateful.<\/p>\n
“The truck gave thousands of children happy memories.”<\/p>\n
“I thought it deserved a home.”<\/p>\n
Tears filled the old man’s eyes instantly.<\/p>\n
He looked at the paper.<\/p>\n
Then at her.<\/p>\n
Speechless.<\/p>\n
The woman squeezed his hand.<\/p>\n
Just like he had once handed a little girl her first ice cream.<\/p>\n
