Elena.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The biker went completely still.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The other men around him stopped moving too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">No one spoke.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">No one even breathed too loudly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Rex stared at the faded photograph again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">At the young woman air.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">A roadside fair.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">A laugh he hadn\u2019t heard in years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">His hand began to shake.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u201cElena\u2026\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The girl nodded slowly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u201cShe said if I ever found class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u201cShe got sick last winter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">A long silence followed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The wind moved dust across the gravel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Somewhere in the distance, a truck passed on the highway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">But in the lot\u2014<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">everything felt still.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Rex closed his eyes for a moment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Pain crossing his face so deeply that even the other bikers looked away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The girl reached into the lunchbox again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">This time pulling out a folded letter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The edges were worn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">She held it toward him with both hands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u201cShe said you\u2019d need this more than I would.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Rex took the letter carefully.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Like it might fall apart if he held it too tightly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">He opened it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Read only the first line\u2014<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">and his knees nearly gave out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">One of the bikers stepped forward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Concerned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">But Rex lifted a hand without looking up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">He kept reading.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Tears rolled down his face.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Real tears.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Unhidden.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">When he finally looked at the girl again\u2014<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">his voice was broken.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u201cShe told you about me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The girl nodded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">A small tear slipping down her cheek.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u201cShe said you were the bravest man she ever knew.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Rex let out a shaky breath.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Then slowly crouched down to her level.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The gravel pressed beneath one knee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">He looked at her closely now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Really looked at her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Elena\u2019s eyes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Elena\u2019s smile.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Elena\u2019s quiet strength.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">And with tears still on his face, he whispered\u2014<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u201cYou\u2019re her little girl\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The child nodded once.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Then Rex pulled her into his arms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Holding her carefully.<\/p>\n<p
