{"id":6497,"date":"2026-06-16T10:52:41","date_gmt":"2026-06-16T05:22:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=6497"},"modified":"2026-06-16T10:52:41","modified_gmt":"2026-06-16T05:22:41","slug":"the-blue-umbrella","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=6497","title":{"rendered":"The Blue Umbrella"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A heavy rainstorm swept across the city park.<\/p>\n<p>Streetlights shimmered in puddles.<\/p>\n<p>Thunder rolled softly overhead.<\/p>\n<p>Beneath a flickering lamp sat a father on an old iron bench.<\/p>\n<p>His coat was damp at the edges.<\/p>\n<p>An umbrella rested above his shoulder.<\/p>\n<p>He didn&#8217;t seem to notice the cold.<\/p>\n<p>Or the rain.<\/p>\n<p>Or the empty park around him.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udcdd <strong>Text on Screen:<\/strong><br \/>\n\ud83d\udc49 <strong>&#8220;He never missed this day&#8230;&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The bench beside him remained empty.<\/p>\n<p>Rain slowly darkened the untouched wood.<\/p>\n<p>People hurried past beneath umbrellas.<\/p>\n<p>No one noticed the man returning to the same place.<\/p>\n<p>The same time.<\/p>\n<p>Every year.<\/p>\n<p>He glanced at the empty seat beside him.<\/p>\n<p>His hands tightened around the blue umbrella.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc68 <strong>&#8220;I brought the blue one this time&#8230;&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A small smile touched his lips.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc68 <strong>&#8220;You always forgot yours.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lightning flashed across the sky.<\/p>\n<p>For just a second&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The empty bench seemed less empty.<\/p>\n<p>As though memory itself had returned to sit beside him.<\/p>\n<p>The father&#8217;s eyes filled with tears.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc68 <strong>&#8220;You said you&#8217;d come back on a rainy day&#8230;&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Another flash of lightning illuminated the park.<\/p>\n<p>In the puddle below, he saw it.<\/p>\n<p>The reflection of a small child sitting beside him.<\/p>\n<p>Tiny sneakers.<\/p>\n<p>A familiar smile.<\/p>\n<p>Little legs swinging beneath the bench.<\/p>\n<p>Then\u2014<\/p>\n<p>The light disappeared.<\/p>\n<p>Only the rain remained.<\/p>\n<p>The father lowered his head.<\/p>\n<p>Still holding the umbrella over both sides of the bench.<\/p>\n<p>Keeping his promise.<\/p>\n<p>Even after all these years.<\/p>\n<p>Then something caught his eye.<\/p>\n<p>Tucked beneath the empty seat was a small folded piece of paper, protected from the rain.<\/p>\n<p>His trembling hands picked it up.<\/p>\n<p>The handwriting stopped his breath.<\/p>\n<p>It was uneven.<\/p>\n<p>Childlike.<\/p>\n<p>But unmistakable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Dear Dad,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>If you still come here when it rains&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Thank you for loving me this much.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Don&#8217;t be sad when you think of me.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Remember the puddle jumps.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Remember the blue umbrella.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Remember that I was happy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Love, always&#8230; your little sunshine.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The father pressed the letter against his chest.<\/p>\n<p>His shoulders shook with silent tears.<\/p>\n<p>Outside, thunder echoed through the city.<\/p>\n<p>But beneath the blue umbrella, grief made room for something gentler.<\/p>\n<p>Not goodbye.<\/p>\n<p>Not forgetting.<\/p>\n<p>Just love&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Learning how to carry both the rain and the memories.<\/p>\n<p>Because some people leave this world far too soon.<\/p>\n<p>But the love they leave behind&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Still saves a seat beside us. \u2614\ud83d\udc99\ud83d\udd4a\ufe0f<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A heavy rainstorm swept across the city park.
