{"id":6067,"date":"2026-06-13T13:05:23","date_gmt":"2026-06-13T07:35:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=6067"},"modified":"2026-06-13T13:05:23","modified_gmt":"2026-06-13T07:35:23","slug":"the-man-who-remembered-how","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=6067","title":{"rendered":"The Man Who Remembered How"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"43\" data-end=\"151\">The old biker stood quietly in the glow of the setting sun, the crayon drawing still trembling in his hands.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"153\" data-end=\"185\">The little girl tilted her head.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"187\" data-end=\"210\">\u201cAre you okay, mister?\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"212\" data-end=\"257\">He smiled softly and handed the picture back.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"259\" data-end=\"321\">\u201cYeah, sweetheart,\u201d he whispered. \u201cJust remembering somebody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"323\" data-end=\"374\">She carefully tucked the drawing into her backpack.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"376\" data-end=\"482\">\u201cDaddy used to cry sometimes too,\u201d she said innocently. \u201cMommy said it meant his heart was still working.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"484\" data-end=\"532\">Those words hit harder than she could ever know.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"534\" data-end=\"628\">For years, the man had ridden from town to town, carrying regrets heavier than his saddlebags.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"630\" data-end=\"650\">He had lost friends.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"652\" data-end=\"664\">Lost family.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"666\" data-end=\"679\">Lost himself.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"681\" data-end=\"772\">And somewhere along the way, he had stopped believing there was anything left worth fixing.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"774\" data-end=\"795\">But this little girl\u2014<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"797\" data-end=\"837\">with her pink bicycle and missing chain\u2014<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"839\" data-end=\"856\">had changed that.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"858\" data-end=\"923\">As she climbed onto the bike, she looked back at him and grinned.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"925\" data-end=\"943\">\u201cLook, Mr. Biker!\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"945\" data-end=\"997\">She pedaled across the gravel lot, laughing proudly.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"999\" data-end=\"1018\">\u201cI remembered how!\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1020\" data-end=\"1058\">The old man laughed through his tears.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1060\" data-end=\"1077\">\u201cThat\u2019s my girl!\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1079\" data-end=\"1158\">Nearby, the diner&#8217;s neon sign flickered on as the sky turned orange and purple.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1160\" data-end=\"1231\">From the doorway, the girl&#8217;s mother watched with a hand over her mouth.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1233\" data-end=\"1260\">\u201cThank you,\u201d she whispered.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1262\" data-end=\"1287\">The biker shook his head.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1289\" data-end=\"1301\">\u201cNo, ma&#8217;am.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1303\" data-end=\"1370\">He looked at the little girl racing circles around the parking lot.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1372\" data-end=\"1398\">\u201cShe fixed something too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1400\" data-end=\"1421\">His voice grew quiet.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1423\" data-end=\"1428\">\u201cMe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1430\" data-end=\"1471\">Then he climbed onto his Harley-Davidson.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1473\" data-end=\"1537\">But before starting the engine, he heard a small voice call out.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1539\" data-end=\"1553\">\u201cHey, mister!\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1555\" data-end=\"1602\">The little girl stopped her bicycle beside him.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1604\" data-end=\"1631\">\u201cWhen my daddy comes back\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1633\" data-end=\"1653\">She smiled brightly.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1655\" data-end=\"1679\">\u201cI think he&#8217;d like you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1681\" data-end=\"1731\">The biker&#8217;s eyes glistened beneath his gray beard.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1733\" data-end=\"1788\">And with a smile full of sadness and hope, he answered:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1790\" data-end=\"1829\">\u201cI think I&#8217;d like him too, sweetheart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1831\" data-end=\"1933\">As the sun disappeared behind the horizon, the old rider realized something he had forgotten long ago:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1935\" data-end=\"1970\">Not everything broken stays broken.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1972\" data-end=\"1982\">Sometimes\u2026<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1984\" data-end=\"2015\">all it takes is a little chain,<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2017\" data-end=\"2035\">a child&#8217;s drawing,<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2037\" data-end=\"2088\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">and someone who still believes things can be fixed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The old biker stood quietly in the glow of the setting sun, the crayon drawing still trembling in his hands.
