The waitress sat quietly on the floor, tears still in her eyes as the giant biker finished tying the bandana around her scraped knee.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy daughter used to cry like that,\u201d he repeated softly.<\/p>\n

No one in the diner dared speak.<\/p>\n

The young woman swallowed hard.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere is she now?\u201d she asked gently.<\/p>\n

For the first time, the biker’s smile faded.<\/p>\n

He looked down at the black-and-white tiles.<\/p>\n

\u201cGone,\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwenty years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n

The words seemed to steal the air from the room.<\/p>\n

The waitress’s eyes filled with tears again.<\/p>\n

The waitress laughed through her tears.<\/p>\n

\u201cReally?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, sweetheart,\u201d he smiled. \u201cYou should’ve seen the messes she made.\u201d<\/p>\n

A few customers smiled.<\/p>\n

Even the cooks behind the counter stopped pretending not to listen.<\/p>\n

Then the diner owner hurried over nervously.<\/p>\n

\u201cJenny, are you alright?\u201d<\/p>\n

Before the waitress could answer, the biker stood up to his full height.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe slipped,\u201d he said calmly.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe didn’t fail.\u201d<\/p>\n

The owner nodded quickly.<\/p>\n

The biker looked around the room.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlates.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDreams.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople.\u201d<\/p>\n

His voice grew quieter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe important thing\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

He glanced at the waitress and smiled beneath his gray beard.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026is helping each other pick up the pieces.\u201d<\/p>\n

Silence filled the diner.<\/p>\n

Then an elderly customer began clapping.<\/p>\n

Another joined.<\/p>\n

Soon the entire diner erupted into applause.<\/p>\n

And standing in the middle of it all, the young waitress suddenly burst into tears again.<\/p>\n

Not because she was embarrassed.<\/p>\n

Not because she was hurt.<\/p>\n

But because a stranger with tattoos, scars, and a “PRESIDENT” patch had reminded her of something she desperately needed to hear\u2014<\/p>\n

that mistakes break dishes.<\/p>\n

Not people.<\/p>\n

As the biker headed back toward his booth, she called out.<\/p>\n

He turned.<\/p>\n
