“You were told I abandoned your daughter.”<\/p>\n

Mateo’s breathing became uneven.<\/p>\n

Valeria stepped backward.<\/p>\n

Mateo closed his eyes.<\/p>\n

Years.<\/p>\n

Birthdays.<\/p>\n

First words.<\/p>\n

First steps.<\/p>\n

Every moment gone.<\/p>\n

Stolen.<\/p>\n

Lost.<\/p>\n

Never to return.<\/p>\n

When he opened his eyes again\u2014<\/p>\n
