The woman stayed kneeling, rain from a passing street sprinkler misting across the pavement like distant memory.<\/p>\n

\u201cI kept it,\u201d she said softly. \u201cAll this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The man\u2019s hands shook harder now.<\/p>\n

The ring sat between them, heavy with years that had never fully passed.<\/p>\n
