The old biker stood motionless beside his Harley.<\/p>\n

The little pink Band-Aid wrapped around his weathered hand seemed ridiculous.<\/p>\n

Childish.<\/p>\n

And somehow\u2014<\/p>\n

more precious than anything he had owned in years.<\/p>\n

Nearby, the little girl rode happy circles around the parking lot, her laughter mixing with the hum of evening traffic.<\/p>\n

Then a woman stepped out of the diner.<\/p>\n

“Ellie, sweetheart, time to go!”<\/p>\n

The girl stopped her bicycle and waved excitedly.<\/p>\n

“Mommy! He fixed my bike!”<\/p>\n

She pointed proudly at the biker.<\/p>\n

“And I fixed him!”<\/p>\n

The mother laughed politely\u2014until she noticed tears in the old man’s eyes.<\/p>\n

Her smile faded.<\/p>\n

“Sir\u2026 are you alright?”<\/p>\n

The biker looked down at the Band-Aid.<\/p>\n

His voice came out rough.<\/p>\n

“My little girl used to carry these.”<\/p>\n

The woman said nothing.<\/p>\n

She simply listened.<\/p>\n

“She thought Band-Aids could fix everything,” he whispered with a broken smile.<\/p>\n

“Knees. Elbows. Bad dreams.”<\/p>\n

His voice cracked.<\/p>\n

“Even broken hearts.”<\/p>\n

The mother glanced at her daughter, suddenly understanding why the old man’s eyes looked so haunted.<\/p>\n

Ellie rode over one last time.<\/p>\n

“Don’t forget!” she announced proudly.<\/p>\n

“Band-Aids only work if you leave them on.”<\/p>\n

The biker laughed through his tears.<\/p>\n

“Yes, ma’am.”<\/p>\n

Satisfied, the little girl hugged him tightly before riding back to her mother.<\/p>\n

As they disappeared into the golden evening, the biker remained beside his motorcycle.<\/p>\n

Hours later, after darkness had settled and the neon lights flickered over the empty parking lot, a waitress from the Cal Vire Diner stepped outside.<\/p>\n

She found the gray-bearded biker still sitting on his Harley.<\/p>\n

Staring quietly at his hand.<\/p>\n

“You heading out?” she asked softly.<\/p>\n

He smiled.<\/p>\n

A real smile.<\/p>\n

The first one she’d ever seen from him.<\/p>\n

“Not yet.”<\/p>\n

He touched the tiny pink Band-Aid gently.<\/p>\n

“I think I’m healing.”<\/p>\n

And beneath the glowing neon sign, the toughest man in the parking lot finally understood something his daughter had known all along\u2014<\/p>\n

sometimes love doesn’t come to take away the pain.<\/p>\n
