The name hit the old biker like a punch to the chest.<\/p>\n

“Rose?” he whispered.<\/p>\n

The little girl nodded, tears shining in her eyes.<\/p>\n

“Mommy said you’d help me.”<\/p>\n

Across the diner, the middle-aged man took a step forward.<\/p>\n

“Emily,” he snapped. “Come here. Now.”<\/p>\n

The child buried herself against the biker’s vest.<\/p>\n

“No!” she cried. “He’s lying!”<\/p>\n

The biker’s eyes hardened.<\/p>\n

Twenty years had changed him.<\/p>\n

But not enough to forget.<\/p>\n

Not enough to break a promise.<\/p>\n

Slowly, he reached into his wallet and pulled out an old photograph.<\/p>\n

His hands trembled.<\/p>\n

In the picture stood a younger version of himself beside a smiling woman with bright eyes.<\/p>\n

Rose.<\/p>\n

The same Rose whose name he hadn’t spoken in two decades.<\/p>\n

“Sweetheart\u2026” he asked softly. “Where’s your mama?”<\/p>\n

The little girl’s lip quivered.<\/p>\n

“She’s in the hospital.”<\/p>\n

Fresh tears spilled down her cheeks.<\/p>\n

“She said if anything happened, I had to find the man with the wolf.”<\/p>\n

The biker closed his eyes.<\/p>\n

Because twenty years earlier, on a rainy night beneath another diner sign, Rose had hugged him goodbye and smiled.<\/p>\n

“If I ever need you\u2026 you’ll come, right?”<\/em><\/p>\n

And he had laughed.<\/p>\n

“Always.”<\/em><\/p>\n

He had never seen her again.<\/p>\n

Until now.<\/p>\n

The man at the counter moved closer.<\/p>\n

“She’s my daughter!” he shouted.<\/p>\n

But before he could take another step, three chairs scraped across the floor.<\/p>\n

Truckers stood up.<\/p>\n

The cook stepped out of the kitchen.<\/p>\n

Even the elderly waitress planted herself beside the booth.<\/p>\n

Nobody said a word.<\/p>\n

But the message was clear.<\/p>\n

Not today.<\/p>\n

The gray-bearded biker wrapped one protective arm around the frightened little girl and looked directly at the man.<\/p>\n

His voice was calm.<\/p>\n

Dangerously calm.<\/p>\n

“No.”<\/p>\n

Then he looked down at the child clinging to his vest.<\/p>\n

And for the first time in twenty years, he spoke the words he should have said long ago.<\/p>\n

“Take me to your mama, little one.”<\/p>\n

Because some promises grow old.<\/p>\n

But real promises\u2026<\/p>\n
