The elderly diner owner wiped tears from his eyes as he held the folder in trembling hands.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe debts\u2026\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey’re all gone.\u201d<\/p>\n

The businessman smiled.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

For a moment, neither man spoke.<\/p>\n

Then the old owner looked around the diner\u2014the same faded booths, the same old clock, the same counter where a frightened boy had once eaten his first hot meal in days.<\/p>\n

\u201cI only gave you dinner,\u201d he said softly.<\/p>\n

The businessman shook his head.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou gave me dignity.\u201d<\/p>\n

His voice broke.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen everyone else saw a dirty kid digging through garbage, you saw a child.\u201d<\/p>\n

The old man lowered his head, overcome with emotion.<\/p>\n

Then the businessman reached into his pocket and placed another set of papers on the counter.<\/p>\n

The old owner frowned.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s this?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA partnership.\u201d<\/p>\n

The old man blinked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n

The younger man smiled through tears.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou told me to make something good of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI did.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd now I want to make sure this place never disappears.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tears filled the old man’s eyes again.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou’d do that for me?\u201d<\/p>\n

The businessman laughed softly.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the next hungry kid who walks through that door.\u201d<\/p>\n

The old man could no longer hold back his tears.<\/p>\n

He stood and wrapped his arms around the man he had once rescued.<\/p>\n

And as they embraced beneath the warm lights of the little diner, both men realized something beautiful.<\/p>\n

The steak and mashed potatoes had been eaten long ago.<\/p>\n

But the kindness served that day\u2014<\/p>\n
