{"id":5334,"date":"2026-06-10T14:18:36","date_gmt":"2026-06-10T08:48:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=5334"},"modified":"2026-06-10T14:18:36","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T08:48:36","slug":"the-promise-he-kept","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=5334","title":{"rendered":"The Promise He Kept"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The little girl refused to let go of Mr. Gunter&#8217;s leg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her tiny arms squeezed tighter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThank you, Mr. Gunter,\u201d she whispered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The huge biker smiled and patted her braided hair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou&#8217;re welcome, little rider.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Behind them, her mother wiped tears from her face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don&#8217;t know how to thank you,\u201d she said through sobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr. Gunter chuckled softly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou already did.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Confused, the woman looked up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He pointed toward the girl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat smile right there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The child suddenly looked up with wide eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCan we ride together someday?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The old biker laughed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOnly after you learn the rules.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She grinned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAnd wear my helmet?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEvery time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAnd no speeding?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The little girl nodded seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOkay.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then she hugged him again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Mr. Gunter turned toward his pickup truck, the mother noticed something sticking out from the side of the miniature Harley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A small brass plaque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With trembling fingers, she brushed away the light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And covered her mouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Engraved on the plaque were the words:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>For Emma.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Dream big, ride safe, and always believe in kindness.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2014Mr. Gunter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fresh tears filled her eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because she suddenly realized something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This wasn&#8217;t an old motorcycle someone had donated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr. Gunter had built it himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hour after hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Piece by piece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just to see one little girl smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And as the gentle giant drove away beneath the evening stars, Emma sat proudly beside her tiny yellow Harley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Watching the taillights disappear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Already counting the days until Mr. Gunter came back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because sometimes the greatest gifts aren&#8217;t bought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They&#8217;re built with love.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The little girl refused to let go of Mr. Gunter&#8217;s leg.
