{"id":5312,"date":"2026-06-10T13:35:36","date_gmt":"2026-06-10T08:05:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=5312"},"modified":"2026-06-10T13:35:37","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T08:05:37","slug":"just-for-one-afternoon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=5312","title":{"rendered":"Just for One Afternoon"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The old biker held the little girl gently, his weathered hands trembling slightly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From inside the diner, his brothers watched through the window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nobody said a word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nobody teased him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because they all saw the tears he was trying so hard to hide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGrandpa,\u201d the little girl said with a smile, \u201ccan we have pancakes?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The gray-bearded biker laughed through his tears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPancakes it is.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the next few hours, they sat in a booth by the window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She colored pictures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He told silly stories about getting lost on his motorcycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And every time she laughed, something inside the old man seemed to heal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later, as the afternoon sun began to fade, the little girl carefully picked up the framed photograph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She looked at the picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then at him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMom says Grandpa would have loved me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The biker smiled softly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOh, sweetheart,\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLooking at you\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe already does.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The girl hugged him again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then she reached into her pocket and pulled out a crayon drawing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three stick figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A little girl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A smiling man with a beard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the framed picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the top, written in crooked letters, were the words:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ME AND MY TWO GRANDPAS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tough old biker completely broke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He covered his face with one hand as tears rolled down his cheeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And through the diner&#8217;s front window, his brothers quietly turned away, pretending to admire their motorcycles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because some moments were too beautiful to interrupt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And for one wonderful afternoon\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">a little girl who never met her grandfather\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And an old biker who thought he&#8217;d been forgotten\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both found family where they least expected it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The old biker held the little girl gently, his weathered hands trembling slightly.
