class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wild.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unforgiving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Above it\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">a broken wooden suspension bridge groaned beneath the weight of winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Old ropes strained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Splintered boards cracked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like the mountain itself had finally grown tired of holding on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the collapsing bridge\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">a young girl in a blue fur-lined parka lay flat against the frozen wood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Snow clung to her sleeves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her cheeks burned red from cold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tears froze against her skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Below\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">a massive grey wolf fought desperately against the violent current.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ice slammed against its body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The freezing river pulled harder with every second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The wolf growled weakly\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">trying to stay above water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPlease!\u201d the girl cried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her tiny voice disappeared into the storm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDon\u2019t let go!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bridge creaked violently beneath her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She stretched farther.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Farther.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Almost slipping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">her trembling gloved hand caught the wolf\u2019s soaked paw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For one terrifying second\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">everything nearly slipped away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wood cracked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ropes screamed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The river roared beneath them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the girl refused to let go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With shaking strength\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">the wolf clawed desperately upward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Snow scattered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wet claws scraped against broken wood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then finally\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">it collapsed onto the unstable bridge beside her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Exhausted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shivering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Barely breathing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The girl wrapped her arms around its soaked fur instantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Holding tight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like warmth alone could keep something alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou\u2019re safe now\u2026\u201d she whispered through tears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Snow drifted softly around them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI promised Mommy I\u2019d protect you\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The wolf pressed weakly closer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its breathing uneven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its body trembling against the cold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something moved inside the fog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heavy footsteps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Slow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deliberate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bridge shifted again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The girl froze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her breath caught instantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Out of the storm\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">another wolf appeared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enormous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Black as shadow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its fur moved like darkness against the snow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Glowing amber eyes locked onto her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The storm suddenly felt quieter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scarier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The wolf stepped closer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One heavy paw at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The girl tightened her arms around the grey wolf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Terrified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Too afraid to move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Closer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Closer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of growling\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">the black wolf slowly lowered its head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And gently rested it against her shoulder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Warm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Protective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Familiar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The girl blinked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Confused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A worn leather tag shifted beneath thick fur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her shaking fingers reached toward it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Snow stuck to the old engraving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She read it slowly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her breath stopped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fresh tears filled her eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo way\u2026\u201d she whispered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tag belonged to her father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The man who never came home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The man everyone said was gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The girl wrapped her arms around both wolves tightly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Crying harder now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not from fear\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">but relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDad really sent you\u2026\u201d she whispered softly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The black wolf stayed close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Silent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Watching over her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And suddenly\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
