Traffic moved beneath rain-soaked streets.<\/p>\n

Inside the luxury penthouse\u2014<\/p>\n

the man hadn’t slept.<\/p>\n

Ultrasound photographs covered the dining table.<\/p>\n

Medical papers lay scattered beside them.<\/p>\n

The blue leather notebook remained open.<\/p>\n

His eyes were red.<\/p>\n

Exhausted.<\/p>\n

Filled with regret.<\/p>\n

For the hundredth time\u2014<\/p>\n

he looked at the final page.<\/p>\n

The last thing Evelyn had written.<\/p>\n

he saw it.<\/p>\n

A small white cottage.<\/p>\n

Smoke rising from a stone chimney.<\/p>\n

Wildflowers blooming along the porch.<\/p>\n

His heart pounded.<\/p>\n

The car stopped.<\/p>\n

Silence surrounded him.<\/p>\n

He stepped out slowly.<\/p>\n

Almost afraid.<\/p>\n

Then the front door opened.<\/p>\n

And there she was.<\/p>\n

Evelyn.<\/p>\n

Standing beneath the porch light.<\/p>\n

One hand resting gently on her stomach.<\/p>\n

The sight nearly broke him.<\/p>\n

He took another step closer.<\/p>\n
