The humid Georgia air suddenly felt heavier around the lonely roadside bus stop.<\/p>\n
The little girl sat quietly beside him clutching her worn teddy bear, tiny shoes dangling above the cracked pavement beneath the flickering streetlight.<\/p>\n
Cars rushed past in the darkness.<\/p>\n
Nobody stopped.<\/p>\n

Caleb\u2019s stomach tightened.<\/p>\n
Rain clouds rolled slowly across the distant sky while police radio static whispered softly from inside the cruiser.<\/p>\n
Then the little girl reached into her coat pocket.<\/p>\n
Carefully\u2014<\/p>\n
she pulled out a folded receipt.<\/p>\n
Old.
\nWrinkled.
\nGrease-stained.<\/p>\n
Caleb opened it beneath the cruiser headlights.<\/p>\n
His expression changed instantly.<\/p>\n
At the very top\u2014<\/p>\n
a motel address.<\/p>\n
And underneath it, written shakily in blue ink:<\/p>\n
\u201cWAIT HERE.
